David

I’m from the beautiful state of Oregon, where I received an elementary teaching license and master’s degree in education from Portland State University. I worked in Portland schools for two years before moving to Taipei. I’ve now lived in Taipei for more than eight years and have primarily been working in the public school system. I have taught thousands of students here a wide variety of lessons. They include more serious classes based around learning phonics and grammar, to more fun classes such as playing the drums, learning about music around the world, and even how to play ping pong. I look forward to putting my experience to use at Maple Tree Academy and helping students to improve their English. I’m a big fan of the outdoors and enjoy hiking and biking, and also just hanging out at home with my family.

Serena

Born and raised in the United States, Serena has always been interested in different cultures and languages. In 2007, after graduating from Oral Roberts University with a degree in International Relations, she got the opportunity to teach English in South Korea. Her original plan was to stay for one year, but she ended up staying for eight years. She studied Korean language at Konkuk University in Seoul and became even more passionate about learning languages and teaching English. In 2015, she moved to Taiwan and obtained her TESOL certificate. During that same year, she started working with Studio Classroom and taught English on television. Missing the classroom experience, she decided to go back to teaching children. She has been with us for more than three years.

Michael

Hello! I’m Teacher Michael from New Jersey, USA. I’ve been living in Taiwan for the past 7 years teaching English. I strive to create a learning environment where all students feel confident participating and are not afraid to make mistakes. Every student has different interests and needs that I hope to satisfy in a harmonious classroom environment. I enjoy watching my students strengthen their weaknesses and gain confidence in their abilities.

Beyond teaching, I am also a game designer. I mostly design strategy games (like Chess) and puzzle games (like Candy Crush but more interesting). Making a game is similar to teaching in a classroom because the main goal is to design an ‘experience’ that the players (the students) want to focus on. I also like to study and teach Kung Fu, practice guitar, and play Ultimate Frisbee. I probably should spend more time trying to learn Chinese! I look forward to learning and making memories in the classroom.

Bee

Hello! I'm Bee, a teacher originally from Canada. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts from OCAD University and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Waterloo, where I also earned a certificate in the Fundamentals of University Teaching. I have spent seven years working within Canadian universities as a professor and teaching assistant. During this time, I also developed and led collaborative arts and writing programs for youth learners outside the university setting. My interest in language learning and passion for helping students excel in English language opportunities led me to obtain my TEFL certificate.

I am motivated and passionate about my work, and I am persistent in achieving educational goals for myself and my students. Drawing from my experience in the arts and academia, I ensure an engaging, high-quality, and tailored learning experience for all students. As a teacher, I aim to build confidence in students’ English language abilities and help set the stage for continuous learning beyond the classroom.

Patrick

Hello! My name is Patrick and I am from Northern Ireland. I have over 6 years of teaching experience and have taught in countries all over the world. My passion for teaching stems from the joy of seeing my students grow in their language abilities and the rewarding experience of making a positive impact on their lives. In my free time, I love to read, write, and travel—these not only enrich my own life but also help me bring fresh perspectives and diverse content into the classroom. I firmly believe in creating an engaging and supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore, learn, and express themselves.
